Were still at it here at Rescued Cards – Thanks for staying tuned. Over the past months we’ve been working with several designers (that we will announce soon) on our card designs for 2012. Our catalog is coming together and we hope to get our cards out there to you for sale sooner than later. In the mean time, we have been going to animal rescues across the US meeting the most amazing people and animals and building our archive of imagery. We have started to work with other photographers as well. So this is our first post showcasing one of our new photographers, Mark Patterson and his imagery from Mostly Monkeys, a wildlife rescue in Ramona, CA.

Mostly Monkeys is a non-profit sanctuary located in San Diego County. The sanctuary provides long-term care for a variety of exotic animals. Our goal is to provide the highest quality of life for the animals in our care.” – Mostly Monkeys

MOSTLY MONKEYS - Ramona, CA photo. Mark Patterson 2012

We learned that the animals Mostly Monkeys takes care of, are animals that were once owned by other humans and were taken away because they were neglected, mistreated, found or turned into animal control. Some of the monkeys were laboratory monkeys, surrendered to Mostly Monkeys as they were retired from their days of experimentation.

This Sanctuary is owned and operated by Suzy Carey and her small but dedicated group of associates. Suzy and her crew have been providing high quality long term care to a variety of exotic animals since 1989. Please visit their website mostlymonkeys.org for more information and to see all of their animals that they take such great care of. Like all rescues they would LOVE your support to continue on.

Suzy told us that she gets requests constantly to take in more animals, unfortunately she cannot take them all as her facility only has so many resources. So please support them in any way you can, even if its just word of mouth. Its all help them continue on, grow, and contribute to ending animal suffering!!

Thank you MOSTLY MONKEYS for ALL you do!! Much RESPECT and LOVE from Rescued Cards!

We will be posting our video footage soon. Stay tuned….

REJOICE

Tree of Hope - Petco Foundation - Rescued Cards 2011

Tree of Hope - Petco Foundation - Rescued Cards 2011

When we started talking with the Petco Foundation about their Tree of Hope Fundraiser, they told us they would like the word “REJOICE” to be on the greeting cards we were to create for them. For the Petco Foundation, the word REJOICE is one of their 4 “R” words that reflect where the Foundation focuses its resources: REDUCE, RESCUE, REHABILITATE & REJOICE.

We’d like to share what the Petco Foundation has to say about the word REJOICE (taken from the Petco Foundation website) ~ we love it & we know you will too!

Rejoice: The Foundation embraces the precept of the healing power of animals. Whether it be Humane Education programs, teaching our children caring and compassion; or Animal Assisted Therapy programs, that allow those in group home environments to experience and relive the joy of being around animals; we believe that our connection to animals is a vital component of successful everyday existence. As Roger Caras (president of the ASPCA) once said, “Animals are not my whole life, but they make my life whole.” The Foundation is a proud sponsor of the Humane Society of the United States’ KIND News program where elementary school kids are exposed to humane educational topics on a monthly basis. In addition, the Foundation donates to many Animal Assisted Therapy groups offering their services to convalescent homes, homes for abused children, assisted living centers, retirement homes, etc.

The dog featured in our “1 day!” countdown is LARRY, from the Because You Care Inc., in Erie, PA. Larry has been adopted by one of the Because You Care volunteers – BUT – BYC has many animals up for adoption that are just as cool as Larry.   Please check out the Because You Care Inc (WEBSITE) to find out more about adopting, fostering, volunteering, donating,  or just to find out more about their rescue organization.

Because You Care Inc rescues dogs, puppies, cats and kittens. To see all of their animals up for adoption click here!

(From the BECAUSE YOU CARE INC., WEBSITE)

Because You Care, Inc. is dedicated to the rescue, treatment and placement of stray and abandoned pets in northwestern Pennsylvania.

Because You Care is an all volunteer, non-profit 501(c)(3)organization founded in 1981. Rather than housing pets in cages,BYC pets live with families in volunteer foster homes. Using this model, the personality, habits and health of pets are well known, enhancing the ability of BYC to place them in adoptive homes that are a “good match”.

Because You Care is concerned with companion animal overpopulation and works actively to reduce the number of unwanted stray pets. To this end, all pets are spayed and neutered. Because You Care promotes identification processes that assist animals who are lost to find their way home. All dogs are micro chipped as part of the adoption process. In the last few years, BYC has implemented a spay/neuter and release program which allows feral cats to continue living outside but after being spayed or neutered and vaccinated for rabies.

Because You Care wishes that no animal endure the pain and suffering of a life of abandonment and neglect. As human stewards of this earth, the volunteers of BYC work to support and preserve the precious life on this planet and strive to create a humane living environment for all animals.

The History of Because You Care

Because You Care, Inc. was founded in 1981 for the sole purpose of abolishing the decompression chambers as a means of euthanasia, found throughout Pennsylvania. With the passage of House Bill 350 in December of 1983, this goal was accomplished. Since then, only death by lethal injection or water cooled gas chamber is allowed in Pennsylvania shelters.

Having accomplished this goal, since 1985, Because You Care, Inc. has dedicated all efforts towards rescuing stray dogs and cats. These orphans, considered disposable items, are half starved, frightened, sometimes abused and often ill, trying to survive in an uncaring world.

BYC, an all volunteer organization, rescues strays and abandoned pets in Erie, PA and surrounding areas. This organization receives no public funds. All pets receive necessary veterinary care, including vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered at the appropriate age. Pets are kept in volunteer foster homes, not in a shelter, with expenses paid by BYC until they are adopted into new homes. All potential families are screened and interviewed. BYC tries to match the personality of the pet to the characteristics of the adoptive family. Current pets in adoptive homes must be spayed or neutered and have current shots.

The prospective home is visited and if it seems a good match, the pet is placed and the family signs an agreement to keep the pet indoors, never to be allowed outside without restraint, maintain his/her vaccinations and provide a good home. Pets are visited after placement and representatives maintain contact to deal with any questions or problems that may arise.

The Cleveland Animal Protective League’s mission is to foster compassion and end animal suffering.  Incorporated in 1913, we are an independent, nonprofit humane society located in Cleveland’s Tremont neighborhood.

As a 501(c)(3) agency, we are not funded or controlled by any government or national animal welfare organization. Our animal shelter, services, and programs are made available through fundraising, donations, foundation and corporate support, and service fees.

We are committed to 100 percent placement of adoptable animals and envision a time when every friendly, healthy, homeless animal in our community can be cared for until a new family is found.

The Cleveland APL provides shelter to homeless animals relinquished by their guardians, animals that are rescued from abuse or neglect, and stray or abandoned.

We treat animals and people with respect, empathy, and kindness.  We listen and respond to the needs of people who surrender animals to us, adopt from us, report abuse to us, use our services, support us, work for us, volunteer for us, and to other animal welfare organizations that turn to us for help.  We believe every life we touch should be treated with dignity.

The horse featured in our “4 days!” countdown is TREASURE, from the Fresh Start Horse Rescue in Dolores, CO.  Please check out the Fresh Start Horse Rescue to find out more about adopting, volunteering, donating or just to find out more about their rescue organization.

Earlier this year Rescued Cards interviewed a Fresh Start team member – check out the video (click here!) Thanks Fresh Start!!

(From the FRESH START Website)

Fresh Start’s MISSION: To provide a fresh start for horses that are abused, neglected, unwanted, or surrendered by loving guardians who can no longer care for them, by rescue, rehabilitation, and placement in permanent, loving homes; and to address the issues concerning unwanted horses through education, action and outreach.

Fresh Start began with the Ryans, a single-income family of four humans who lost their hearts to some neglected broomtails, purchased them, brought them home, and embarked on a great journey of discovery as they loved their way through layers of mistrust, ingrained behaviors, and outright fear. They next made the mistake of visiting the sale barn. Soon, they were in it up to their eyeballs, spending every dime and spare second on feeding, care, rehab, training, and maintenance of their evolving rescue operation. They made a facility out of duct tape and baling twine, and the horses changed their lives.

Fresh Start Horse Rescue, Inc. became a Colorado nonprofit corporation in 2006 and began accepting contributions and volunteer help. The 501(c)(3) came soon after. Because of the economy and Southwest Colorado’s horse overpopulation, more horses become homeless or endangered every day.
